Thoughts on Communion

Taking communion now, using 1 Cor 11v23-26 as my guide. Same as saturday, both reading the scripture and praying out loud I was just arrested in my tracks at 'Lord your body was broken...'.
Look at this broken cracker, compared to an unbroken one. Think of anything broken - a broken pencil - my ice maker is broken (in this heat!) so I'm throwing it out - when something is broken, it is ruined, useless, unfit for purpose, to be discarded. Not like a mug being chipped that can still be used. This is a revelation to me - am too used to seeing Jesus on the cross, ok covered in blood etc, but still intact - not broken!  People proudly boast of being unbroken and unbowed when they suffer, oh it's just a flesh wound - religious art often portrays Jesus like this, oh so perfect, suffering so nobly, barely affected by it, just a few scratches, but piously putting up with it for our sakes, putting up with us even... But no,  not Jesus - he was BROKEN by our sin, he WAS bowed, he bowed his head and gave up the ghost - he was broken, crushed, marred, disfigured like lepers are, skin hanging off, unrecognisable as human, the skin was flayed from his back, he hung on the cross looking like a slaughtered lamb hanging up in a butcher's shop cut in half, drained of it's blood, naked, it's organs exposed...

It's why I love this song - it talks of how to make wine, the grape is CRUSHED... I have felt crushed in the last year in particular with the divorce.

Also find the wording interesting:
'This CUP is the new covenant in my blood' - what is it about the CUP?! We know about Jesus's blood poured out on the cross and what that does, but strange wording here - it's the cup itself that's the new covenant?! That cup, the Holy Grail? Any cup? What's the significance of the Cup?! Answers on a postcard - thoughts?! Discuss! 🤷🏻‍♂️

I Corinthians 11:25 NKJV
[25] In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

The Woman with the flow of blood healed by touching the hem of Jesus' garment represents the end of the flow of the blood of sheep and goats for the atonement of the sins of Israel!
