No words... a father's grief... a Good Friday reflection

There are no words to describe
The pain that a father feels
Watching his precious child
Go astray, go his own way
You blame yourself, I know
I'm not a perfect dad
I didn't think I was so bad
How did it all go so wrong
Will he be gone for long?

There was a father
Who gave his perfect son
For the sins of all men
On a cross he was hung
Such pain that father felt
As his son was crucified
The pain was greater still
As his dying son cried
'Oh Father why have you abandoned me?
To die a painful death on this accursed tree?'

The father wept drops of rain
As he watched his son die
The whole earth shook
As his heart broke with a mighty cry
The sky was shrouded with his grief
As his son's body broke beneath
The weight of evil, sin and death
His hands and feet nailed by hell's teeth

'Father into thy hands I give my spirit' he cried
The veil was rent, the earth shook as
As he hung his head and died
His mother cried...

They took him down
And they put him in a borrowed tomb
Just like the day he was born
When there was found no room
At last the Son of Man had a place to lay his head
He never had one in life
Only now he was dead

They rolled the stone in place
A shroud covered his face

Three days he lay
In the stone cold grave
The sky was grey
.
..
...
Then the angels came
They rolled away the stone
The grave was not his home
He walked out from the tomb

His work was done
The victory was won
Death couldn't hold him
Its shackles he'd undone

The same is now true for you and me
When we see what he has done
We too can walk free
Jesus came down to earth
Every grave to empty

We need no longer fear death
We can live in liberty
And victory
For eternity
Amen!
