Heanor Outreach 13/3/26

The worker is worthy of his hire... my reward for freezing my cojones off in 3 degrees and pissing rain (2 dry hours my @ss!).
The smart day for a february outreach would have been tomorrow afternoon with highs of 6 degrees and sunshine!
By the end my feet were lumps of ice, had to dance to stay warm - Anthony whose outreach it was was playing worship/gospel music so I had music to dance to, which drew a few smiles and some attention from passers by, all good publicity!  Ended up giving up and dancing to warm up in Birds bakery with a warm latte, a sausage & apple & stuffing cob with hash browns and an elephant's foot!

At home defrosting, my head hurts from the cold & exertion.  Had prayed for one decent conversation, which I had with a council worker who was stood waiting all morning by the public toilets next to us for a plumber to come and fix them, so I went over and had a long chat with him as he was stood there trying to keep warm while he waited and had been watching our antics.  He was ex infantry, had served in Bosnia, I love chatting to military types having grown up in the forces.  Felt like I was copping out chatting away to him on a pet topic while Michael who I'd come with preached, so managed to steer the conversation onto the things of God. Turned out he'd been taken to church as a kid, his grandmother had been a believer, he'd drifted away.  So I talked about eternity, where would he end up, had he ever thought about it, got onto who Jesus was etc, can't remember all the details - ended by asking did he have a bible, he thought he did somewhere, asked him if he wanted a John's gospel and he enthusiastically took one, one of the guys there had given me a handful of them.  His name was Richard - I hope I sowed a seed in his heart, I hope he reads John's gospel, do pray God will water the seed and something will germinate and I'll have snatched one from the fire today, couldn't ask for more!  (Well I could, and I will, but it's a start for a rookie street preacher like me - today's made me realise it aint all sunshine and roses... will hopefully earn my spurs in time!

There was a lot of hostility from people, scowling screwed up faces yelling abuse - one little old lady went past and stopped and scowled at Michael who was preaching and said that she does go to church but doesn't approve of what he's doing and his shouting (he preached unamplified, yelling his message, he'll have a sore throught tonight!!).  Well I wonder if she's shared the gospel with her neighbours even or anyone for that matter and if she even cares that people are going to a godless eternity...!  I remember hearing a seminar on preaching the gospel, and learning, as Paul on his missionary journeys encountered those who were receptive to the gospel as well as opposition, to look for the 'man of peace' who is amenable to the message and wants to hear more, don't bother duelling with the nasties... for me I reckon that countil guy was my 'man of peace', he'd just quitely watched us for ages while he waited, leaning up against the toilet block waiting for the no show plumber, I think we did him a favor providing him with entertainment! 😂
